Inherent Weakness

Melodin has never considered himself a hero.

He is a simple man with a dog named Dog, no natural-born magic talent, unless being luckily unlucky counts as one. But when word reaches him that his friend Rowna has been captured by a growing cult devoted to the god Hadaar, he knows he cannot simply stay at home and hope she is rescued.

With Dog at his side, he crosses a world becoming increasingly unsettled by war and the rise of Hadaar's followers.

As the search for Rowna leads into the deserts of Massal, Melodin discovers that her disappearance is only a small part of something far larger. Hadaar's followers are organised, their influence reaches deeper than anyone realised, and those who stand in their way are not always who they seem.

Melodin may not be the strongest, the cleverest, or the most capable person in the room.

But he has never been very good at leaving his friends behind.

And sometimes, that is enough to change everything.

Melodin cannot give Rowna the kind of protection she can give him. But he can give her the promise that she will never be abandoned.
